Venues & Useful Info

The conference will take place in two different spaces across the city of Bilbao, Basque Country (Spain). The first one is the auditorium (Bizkaia Aretoa) of the University of the Basque Country,  which will hold the morning and afternoon sessions (9:00-17:30). The night sessions (19:00-21:00) will be carried out at Bulegoa Z/b, an internationally recognised office for art and knowledge located in the old town of Bilbo.

Bizkaia AretoaThe Bizkaia Aretoa is a piece of modernist architecture designed by the architect Álvaro Siza. It is a part of the urban ‘renewal’ project that has transformed Bilbao in the last two decades into a “postindustrial” city. It is significant for its architectural features and for the urban transformation it has contributed to – the regeneration of the previously industrial area of Abandoibarra. An L-shaped structure, it opens out onto the estuary and the Guggenheim Museum, right in the centre of Bilbo, in front of the University of Deusto.

As mentioned, Bulegoa Z/b will hold the night sessions of the conference and both spaces will be linked with a different guided walk each day. For more information check the program tab here.

Accommodation:

As a post-industrial city that has become a city of services and tourism, it is quite easy in Bilbao to find all kinds of accommodation through the conventional internet platforms and booking operators. Even though Bilbao has reliable and frequent public transport, we strongly recommend booking accommodation in Bilbao city centre or in the old quarter.
